Establishes quickly to send up 2-3" diameter white shoots that are sweet enough to be eaten raw when just emerging. Likes sun to part shade. Sweet Shoot Bamboo has a spreading habit with pretty, thick green canes bending toward the light when young, then straightening with age growing up to 35-40 ft. Dense, evergreen foliage and thick canes for its height. Hardy to 0° F. Zone 7-10.

POLLINATION/BLOOM TIME: Shoots begin appearing at the end of April in PNW, between April and June for other locations. Reaches full height in approximately 2-3 months.
RECOMMENDED GROWING AND CARE:
Likes sun to part shade. Newly planted needs watering twice a week during mild weather, four times a week during hot or windy weather. Watering everyday may cause excess leaf drop, but tolerant when established. Happiest in acidic loamy soil. A running bamboo, which means it spreads. Pruning shoots and canes above ground level hides the evidence; but does not prevent spreading. Bi-annual root pruning around the edge of the running bamboo is the most effective way to achieve long-term control.
