BUDAGOVSKI 9 APPLE ROOTSTOCK (Malus sp.) |
A hardy russian dwarfing apple rootstock. BUD 9 is similar to M9 but more winter hardy, to Zone 3. Induces very early fruiting and larger fruit so it usually requires support. The tree is slightly smaller than M26. Leaves and wood are reddish which helps distinguish rootstock from grafted portion. |

This rootstock will create a dwarf tree, typically 8-12 ft. Can be kept even smaller with summer pruning. The advantage of M26 dwarfing rootstocks is in ease of harvest and quick bearing. Small trees can be planted much closer together, allowing for more trees and greater variety in a small area. Best on well drained soil. Zone 4. |

Standard cherry rootstock for sweet, tart and flowering cherries. Hardy and widely adapted, drought tolerant, and well anchored. Resistant to root rot and nematodes. Mazzard Cherry Rootstock makes a large tree so it will require annual pruning to keep it to an easily harvestable size. Excellent for bird food planting. The wood also has timber value. Zone 4-8. |

MANCHURIAN APRICOT (Prunus mandshurica) |
More of an ornamental that a nut producer. This winter hardy naturally dwarf tree has very showy rose pink flowers in spring and golden leaves in autumn. A bitter oil can be expressed from the seeds and the small fruits have been used as food in Siberia. Russian Almond Trees are also used as a dwarfing rootstock for almonds. Zone 3 .

A very winter hardy species of apricot, producing small, sweet orange fruits suitable for eating, drying or making into jam. Manchurian Apricot has early blooming pink flowers that are attractive and surprisingly hardy. Zone 3.
