European Pear Trees

The soft, butter texture of a ripe pear with its wonderful fragrance, flavor and sweetness, is unsurpassed in tree fruits. We offer European Pears that are great for fresh eating.

The varieties are listed in the order of ripening. They have been grafted on semi-dwarf O.H.F. X 333 rootstock, unless otherwise noted. Plant two different varieties for cross pollination.

Very early ripening of large sweet fruit with a reddish blush. Good disease resistance. Ubileen European Pear is of Bulgarian origin. Zone 5 - 9.

EARLY GOLD EUROPEAN PEAR (Pyrus ussuriensis)

Small, sweet fruits are very early ripening and crispy. Early Gold European pear is fireblight resistant. Self-pollinating, though yield can be increased with another variety.

SUMMER CRISP EUROPEAN PEAR (Pyrus communisx p. ussuniensis)

Midsize, sweet fruits, similar to the crispness of Asian Pears. Summer Crisp fruit keeps for several months. Fireblight resistant. Minnesota origin. Zone 4.

MOONGLOW EUROPEAN PEAR (Pyrus communis)

Medium large, good quality yellow skinned, white fleshed fruit with a red blush. Moonglow European Pear is very productive and highly fireblight resistant. Early ripening and quick to start bearing for a European pear. Zone 4-9.

URE EUROPEAN PEAR (Pyrus ussuriensis)

Greenish yellow fruit. It is especially sweet and juicy, great for eating and canning. Ure European Pear is from Manitoba, Canada. Resistant to fireblight. Hardy to Zone 2.

RESCUE EUROPEAN PEAR (Pyrus communis)

Large yellow skinned pear with a red blush. Rescue European Pear fruits are sweet, juicy, and very productive. September ripening. Can keep until December. Scab resistant.

BARTLETT EUROPEAN PEAR (Pyrus communis)

The industry standard for canning and for fresh eating. The fruit of Bartlett European Pear is juicy and sweet and a reasonable keeper. Ripens in September. Tree is compact and very productive but not very disease resistant. Zone 5-9.

Large yellow pear with a red blush. Flavorful all purpose variety with good scab resistance. Early mid-season ripening. Orcas European Pear originated in Orcas Island, WA.

SECKEL EUROPEAN PEAR (Pyrus communis)

Known as "the sugar pear" for its extremely sweet and highly flavored, aromatic fruit. Excellent as a dessert pear, sweet as candy when dried, and also used for canning. Seckel European Pear is a self fertile variety in warmer parts of the country. In the North, it may require cross pollination to bear well. Large crops of small yellow/brown fruit on a naturally semi-dwarf tree. Resistant to fireblight but scab susceptible. Hardy and widely adapted. Zone 4-9.

BOSC EUROPEAN PEAR (Pyrus communis)

Firm, brown winter pear with narrow neck. Highly aromatic, excellent flavor. A very old variety introduced from Belgium in 1807. Good fresh, dried, or cooked. Very good keeper - up to six months. Zone 5-9. Best pollinators for Bosc Europearn pear are Comice, Orcas, or Shipova.

COMICE EUROPEAN PEAR (Pyrus communis)

Large juicy yellow/green fruits, ripening in fall. Comice European Pear has long been the standard of excellence with which to compare other varieties. Fire blight resistant. Zone 5-9. Best pollinators: Bosc, Orcas, Shipova.

A cross between Nijesseiki Asian Pear and Red Bartlett. Maxie Pear produces a reddish skinned crisp, sweet, juicy and fragrant fruit. Scab resistant.
