Large fruited variety best for fresh use. English Brown Turkey Fig has bronze skin with red flesh, may be slightly hardier than most of the other varieties. Not very productive in WA but with a late fall may produce a large 2nd crop. Somewhat dwarfing. Full sun. Zone 7-10.
ZONE: 7-10
POLLINATION/BLOOM TIME: Self-fertile.
RECOMMENDED GROWING AND CARE:
Full sun, warm & protected locations with balanced moisture. Reduce grass competition in root zone. Top dress with compost yearly - a heavy feeder. Needs good drainage. Dormant prune for height and ease of harvest. Spur bearer. Tends to bear its heavy breba (early) crop on older wood, so pruning alternate uprights is best to avoid losing fruiting potential. Summer, August. Figs are fully ripe when they hang down heavily from the spur, feel heavy for their size, and the throat has a slight puckering to the skin.
CHILL HOURS: 100 hours below 45F
DISEASE RESISTANCE: Excellent.
SIZE AT MATURITY: 10-20' x 10-20'
