Cherry Trees

Sweet cherries on Gisela 5 dwarfing rootstock can be maintained at 8 to12ft. This rootstock induces early fruiting and productivity, is disease resistant, tolerates a wide range of soil types, and is hardy.

Pie cherries are primarily used for baking, canning, juice, or jam. More tart than sweet cherries, some are nevertheless sweet enough to eat fresh.

RAINIER CHERRY (Prunus avium)

Yellow skin with a hint of blush, making the fruit less attractive to birds. Large firm fruit with white juicy flesh. Crack resistant. Rainier Cherry trees are particularly hardy, yet fairly low chill. Pollinated by all except Kristin. Zone 5-9.

Large sweet black cherry resembling Bing in flavor, but more resistant to bacterial canker and fruit cracking than Bing. Sam Cherry is also less susceptible to spring frost than other cherries. Zone 5-9.

VAN CHERRY (Prunus avium)

Large dark fruit, similar to Bing, some resistance to cracking. A hardy, early, and reliable bearer. Van cherry is pollinated by all varieties except Bing. Zone 5-9.

A self-fertile sweet cherry with large black delicious fruits that are resistant to cracking under wet conditions. Vandalay Cherry trees are resistant to bacterial canker. Widely adapted selection from Eastern Canada. Midseason ripening.
