Ripens early, very sweet and flavorful. Has black skinned fruit with melting juicy red flesh. Very hardy plum tree. Black Ice Plum is a quick-to-bear variety, naturally small, somewhat self-fruitful though more productive with a pollinator such as Toka. Bred by Brian Smith of River Falls, Wisconsin. Patented.

POLLINATION/BLOOM TIME: Early: March. Great pollinator for other Japanese plums. Somewhat self-fertile and will produce more with another plum such as Toka. Hugely ornamental mass of fragrant white blossoms in spring.
RECOMMENDED GROWING AND CARE:
Full to 3/4 sun with balanced moisture. Reduce grass competition in root zone. Top dress with compost yearly. Summer prune for airflow and ease of harvest. Spur bearer with fruit throughout the tree. Thinning can be important to prevent branch breakage on this small-scale tree. Also thinning helps keep tree from biennial bearing tendency.
