Medium-large nuts that are slightly later ripening than Whitten South, and more irregularly shaped, but with an exceptional flavor. Whitten North Chestnut are large spreading productive tree. This rediscovered variety is from the Whitten homestead in Thurston County, WA, and was brought out west in a covered wagon in the 1880's.
Seedlings start producing 4-8yrs after planting. Grafted/Layered trees start producing 3-5yrs after planting.

POLLINATION/BLOOM TIME: Yellowish white male and female flowers bloom in late June to mid-July. Plant more than one tree to increase yield.
Grafted/Layered trees – Plant with at least 1 other pollinator to ensure good nut production.
Seedlings - Plant with 2 or more seedlings for cross pollination. Or plant with 1 or more good pollen producing grafted varieties.
RECOMMENDED GROWING AND CARE:
Full sun, balanced moisture, mildly acidic soils, and good drainage. West Coast of US tends to be free of blight.
CHILL HOURS: Medium: 300-500 hours below 45F
DISEASE RESISTANCE: Good. Not blight resistant..
SPACING: 12'-25’ from the centers, if room permits.
