Akebia Vines

Akebia is a widely adapted, fast growing ornamental fruit bearing vine. Likes sun or shade. Blooms in April, ripens in fall depending upon location. Hardy to -25° F.

It's known by many other names. The Five Leaf Akebia because of its small oval compound leaves in clusters of 5. The leaves are distinctive looking and can be retained over winter in milder climates. Referred to as the Chocolate Vine because of its attractive flowers that are very fragrant and sometimes described to smell like chocolate.

If two different varieties of Akebia Vine are planted together, a large unusual looking edible blue fruit is produced. The fruit is seedy, but the pulp is very sweet. Zone 4-10.

Plant two different varieties for cross pollination if fruit is desired.
