 Detailed Description

Spiny ornamental nitrogen-fixing shrub. Large, bright orange, edible tart berries, great for jelly, sauce, or juice. Plant two or more for pollination; unsexed plants will be either male or female. A single male can pollinate 6-8 females. It will take 4-6 years until the first flowering. Seaberry Seedlings are highly variable, can grow to 35 ft. but can be kept at 7 ft. tall by 5 ft. wide with pruning. Needs full sun. Very hardy plant from Russia.

ZONE: 2-9

POLLINATION/BLOOM TIME: April. Provide 1 male per 7 females for best pollination.

RECOMMENDED GROWING AND CARE:

Full sun, balanced moisture to start, reduce grass competition in root zone. Very sun-sensitive, so keep top pruned short to guarantee sun penetration to lower branches. Drought-tolerant once established. Tolerates poor soils well. Summer prune for airflow and ease of harvest. Fruits on old wood.

CHILL HOURS: (guessing at 800) hours below 45F

DISEASE RESISTANCE: Above average. No known pest or disease problems.

SIZE AT MATURITY: Can grow to 35' but be kept to 7' x 5' with pruning.

RESTRICTIONS: CAN NOT SHIP TO ME

SHIPPING UPDATE: Seaberry seedlings must be on their own order and will be shipped separately in April, 2025.
