 Detailed Description

Dark red, dessert-quality apple that is also good for cooking.  Excellent keeper.  Self-fertile.  High antioxidant level.  Resistant to scab, mildew and fireblight.  Spartan apple is a hybrid of McIntosh x Newton.  Zone 3-9.

ZONE:  3-9

POLLINATION/BLOOM TIME:  Mid blooming. Self-fertile - but will produce better with another apple variety nearby.  For appropriate cross pollination click HERE

RECOMMENDED GROWING AND CARE:

Full sun, balanced moisture, reduce grass competition in root zone.  Top dress with compost yearly.  Summer prune for airflow and ease of harvest.  Spur bearer.  Late season ripening.

CHILL HOURS:  800 hours below 45F                    

DISEASE RESISTANCE:  Good. Some resistance to mildew, cedar apple rust & fireblight. Some suseptibility to canker & scab.

SIZE AT MATURITY:  Dwarf - 8' x 12'| Semi Dwarf – 10-16' x 15'| Standard – 20' x 20'
