 Detailed Description

One of our best producers with a large, dark brown, sweet nut that peels very well. Small tree form that is narrow and upright. An excellent pollen producer for Colossal and others. Silverleaf chestnut is a widely adapted and blight resistant tree. Early ripening. In California, some of its largest nuts have split shells but that hasn't been a problem here in the Northwest. Also known as the variety 'Eurobella". May be Japanese x European x Chinkapin. Seedlings start producing 4-8yrs after planting. Grafted/Layered trees start producing 3-5yrs after planting.

ZONE:  4-8

POLLINATION/BLOOM TIME: Late June to Mid-July. Excellent pollen producer. Needs a pollinator.

Grafted/Layered trees – Plant with at least 1 other pollinator to ensure good nut production.

Seedlings - Plant with 2 or more seedlings for cross pollination. Or plant with 1 or more good pollen producing grafted varieties.

RECOMMENDED GROWING AND CARE:

Full sun, balanced moisture, mildly acidic soils and good drainage.

CHILL HOURS:  Medium: 400-500 hours below 45F

DISEASE RESISTANCE:  Good. Should be Blight resistant.

SPACING: 20'-35' from the centers, if room permits.
