This medium-sized thorny tree grows into an impenetrable hedge, a useful shelter for nesting birds. It produces a large, grapefruit sized, inedible fruit that is claimed to repel spiders and cockroaches. The fruit has seeds that are loved by squirrels.
Osage Orange trees have beautiful yellow fall color. The trees create a dense flexible hardwood used in bow making. Also yields a yellow dye. Widely adapted. Zone 5-9.
