 Detailed Description

The hardiest of all cherries, North Star pie cherry is hardy to minus 40°F! Originating in Minnesota. A naturally dwarfing variety. Productive & self-fruitful. Resistant to cracking & brown rot.

ZONE:  4-8

POLLINATION/BLOOM TIME:  Mid-late blooming. Self-fertile.  For appropriate cross pollination click HERE

RECOMMENDED GROWING AND CARE:

Full to 1/2 sun, balanced moisture. Reduce grass competition in root zone. Top dress with compost yearly.  Summer prune for airflow and ease of harvest. Spur bearer. Cut new growth by half each year to keep tree compact. Fruits on 1 year old + wood.

CHILL HOURS:  700 chill hours below 45F                           

DISEASE RESISTANCE:  Very good: resistant to cracking & brown rot.

SIZE AT MATURITY:  Dwarf - 8' x 12'| Semi Dwarf – 10-16' x 15'| Standard – 20' x 20'
