 Detailed Description
Neilson Shagbark Hickory produces an early ripening crop of large nuts that fill their shell well.  A high yielding selection. Large tree with dense, tough, useful wood. Thick shelled nuts of outstanding flavor. Beautiful yellow fall color. Irregular oval crown shape. Unusual long, peeling strips of bark develops character with age.

ZONE: 3-8

POLLINATION/BLOOM TIME:  Semi-fruitful. Cross-pollination generally produces a more abundant crop of better-quality nuts. 

RECOMMENDED GROWING AND CARE:

Full to 1/2 sun, balanced moisture, neutral soils with high organic matter and good drainage.   Prune dead, damaged limbs to improve airflow.

CHILL HOURS: 1000-12000 hours below 45°F

DISEASE RESISTANCE:  Good. Mild pest or disease problems in some parts of its range. 

SIZE AT MATURITY:  To 70-90' tall x 50-70' wide
