Outstanding sweet flavor, considered the best in the Northwest for jam or preserves, and great for fresh eating as well. Large dark red fruits are June ripening. Hood Strawberry has resistance to mildew, red stele and root rot disease, but not particularly hardy in cold winter regions.

RECOMMENDED GROWING AND CARE:
Soak roots in tepid water for several hours before planting. Full to 1/2 sun, balanced moisture, prefers slightly acidic soils. Eliminate grass competition in root zone. A mulch of pine needles can keep berries off soil, improve fruit quality and keep shallow roots moist. Top dress with compost yearly; fertilize in August to help plant set many buds for following years' yield. Some growers will prune off 1st year flowers to allow plants to develop stronger root systems.
