 Detailed Description

This tart cherry is larger fruited than most and its dark red fruits are suitable for pies and juice, yet are sweet enough to eat fresh. Self-fruitful. Propagated on its own roots, so it's easy to maintain in a bush form. Crimson Passion Cherry is very winter hardy. Zone 3-8

ZONE:  3-8

POLLINATION/BLOOM TIME:  Early-mid blooming. Self-fertile.  For appropriate cross pollination click HERE

RECOMMENDED GROWING AND CARE:

Full to 3/4 sun, balanced moisture. Reduce grass competition in root zone. Top dress with compost yearly.  Summer prune for airflow and ease of harvest. Spur bearer. Bury roots 2-3" deeper than usual to allow more eyes to develop and more uprights to form in time. Fruits on 1 year old + wood.

CHILL HOURS:  700 chill hours below 45F

DISEASE RESISTANCE:  Average. Prone to gummosis and bare branch syndrome, also a magnet for Spotted Wing Drosophila, which causes fruits filled with small larvae.

SIZE AT MATURITY:  Dwarf - 8' x 12'| Semi Dwarf – 10-16' x 15'| Standard – 20' x 20'

*Mature size is not definitive – Climate, soil, care, and pruning methods all factor into size at maturity*
