 Detailed Description

Bears 4-6" long clusters of small white flowers in late spring followed by bunches of reddish-purple tart fruit in August. Chokecherry is primarily used in jams or by wildlife. Tartness is greatly reduced when very ripe, well after fruit has turned dark. Native east of the Cascade mountains from California to British Columbia.

POLLINATION/BLOOM TIME:  Early - March

RECOMMENDED GROWING AND CARE:  

Acid to neutral soil.  Full sun, balanced moisture, reduce grass competition in root zone. Top dress with compost yearly. Will need regular summer water in dry regions.   Summer prune for airflow, height and ease of harvest. Mature trees comparatively small. Weak anchoring - stake for first 3-4 years

DISEASE RESISTANCE    May be susceptible to common stone fruit diseases like canker and black knot. Resistance will vary based on location and genetics of seedlings.

SIZE AT MATURITY:  10-20 x 10-15
