 Detailed Description
Produces the largest and best tasting acorns of the West Coast native oaks. The California Black Oak has a dark trunk with large, sharply lobed leaves, reddish in spring, yellow in fall. Native to N. CA. Needs sharp drainage. Will re-sprout if top killed by fire. Acorns take 2 years to ripen. Zone 6-9. To 40-80'.

POLLINATION/BLOOM TIME: Spring.

RECOMMENDED GROWING AND CARE:

Full sun, widely adapted soils. No standing water. Drought tolerant once established.

CHILL HOURS: n/a   hours below 45F.                                      

DISEASE RESISTANCE: Very good. If cold kills the vines, they can re-sprout from their own roots the following year.

SIZE AT MATURITY: To 80' tall and wide
