| These seedlings are crosses between butternut and heartnut. Some of these 'Buartnuts' may combine the best qualities of both species. Most butternut trees, including named varieties, that have proven resistant to butternut canker have, through genetic testing, turned out to be buartnut hybrids that looked like butternuts.
