| Medium sized, long pointed fruits of the Black Sea Jujube are especially sweet. Reddish brown fruit turns brown when fully ripe. Sweet oval fruit 2" long with single pit. Especially good medium-sized, dual-purpose variety - can be eaten early when rusty red as mildly sweet and crunchy like an apple, or dried. Especially sweet and flavorful, with uniform brown hue when ripe. Jujubes do well in hot interior regions and are very drought tolerant.
ZONE: 5-10
POLLINATION/BLOOM TIME: Blooms with tiny green flowers midsummer. Self-fertile but more productive with another jujube. Late season ripening – October.
RECOMMENDED GROWING AND CARE:
REQUIRES full sun, regular heat, balanced moisture during establishment; reduce grass competition in root zone. Top dress with compost occasionally. Will tolerate extreme heat and poor soils and still fruit well. Only remove dead wood, suckers below graft union, and spreading root suckers that may spring up around root zone.
CHILL HOURS: 400 hours below 45F
DISEASE RESISTANCE: Very good.
SIZE AT MATURITY: 8-10’.
*Mature size is not definitive – Climate, soil, care, and pruning methods all factor into size at maturity* |
