 Detailed Description

Large evergreen shrub with reddish brown bark, red stems, and big clusters of pink flowers. Austin Griffiths Manzanita is loved by butterflies and hummingbirds. Drought tolerant.

ZONE: 8-10

POLLINATION/BLOOM TIME:  Mid-winter blooming, January-February.

RECOMMENDED GROWING AND CARE:

Likes full sun with low water needs and well-drained soil. Prune to remove dead branches but avoid unnecessary pruning. Manzanitas are prone to branch die-back, caused by a naturally occurring fungal pathogen. When removing dead branches, sterilize pruning shears with alcohol between cuts to prevent the spread of the disease.

CHILL HOURS:

DISEASE RESISTANCE:  Sudden Oak death and beware of the manzanita leaf gall aphid which feed on the leaves. The aphids are grayish and greenish in color and prefer new growth causing the leaves to thicken and form bright red galls.

SIZE AT MATURITY:  Can reach 10ft in height and get 9?x7? wide in 6 years.
