 Detailed Description

Northwest native conifer with a narrow form and downward sweeping branches. Yellow wood. Alaska Cedar is native on moist sites in the mountains of Oregon to Alaska. Can live 1500 years or more. Prefers moist soil. Prefers climates with cool summers. Large evergreen tree to about 35 ft. tall and 5 ft. wide. Also commonly called Nootka Cypress. Zone 5-9.

ZONE:  5-9

POLLINATION/BLOOM TIME:  Mid-late spring flowers are yellow-green and insignificant.

RECOMMENDED GROWING AND CARE:

Full sun to full shade, balanced moisture, acid soils with high organic matter. Reduce grass competition in root zone to start. Will be somewhat drought-tolerant after establishment, but will grow more quickly with regular moisture. Can grow next to streams and in periodic standing water. Prune as needed.

CHILL HOURS:  n/a hours below 45F.                    

DISEASE RESISTANCE:  Very good. Can be subject to blight.

SIZE AT MATURITY:  To 35'x5'
