 Detailed Description

Very large clusters of early ripening, good sized purplish/black berries. Used for jam, juice, wine and can be eaten fresh. Adams elderberry is sweeter than most elderberries. Somewhat self fruitful, but will yield best with another variety such as Johns. New York origin.

ZONE: 3-8

POLLINATION/BLOOM TIME:  Late - May/June. Possible self fertile but may need pollination from another S. canadensis such as Johns.

RECOMMENDED GROWING AND CARE:

Full to 1/2 sun, balanced moisture in summer to increase fruit quality, reduce grass competition in root zone. Top dress with compost yearly. Try not to cultivate around brittle surface roots. Not required. Can prune in summer or when dormant for airflow and ease of harvest. Remove older branches as needed to invigorate harvests.

CHILL HOURS:  Very low: 100 - 200 hours below 45F                                                                                        

DISEASE RESISTANCE:  very good. No major pests or disease problems.

SIZE AT MATURITY:  10-12' x 8 ft
