Belle Epine Chestnut (Castanea crenatata x C. sativa)
This variety has very high quality, reddish brown nuts are late ripening, yet do ripen sufficiently here in the Northern edge of chestnut culture. Good disease resistance and an excellent pollinator. In the North, nuts come down in the husk, protecting them from jays and squirrels.
