Large shrub or small tree with profuse apple-like blossoms turning to 1/2" long black fruits appreciated by birds in fall and winter. Zone 5 or 6-9.

CHINESE EDIBLE HAWTHORNE (Crataegus pinnatifida)
This attractive small tree has pretty white flowers followed by large clusters of bright red edible fruits. In China the 1 1/2 diameter tart fruits are eaten fresh, dried, used in candies and drinks. A larger fruited relative of our Southern mayhaw. Like mayhaw they would make a great jelly. Zone 6-9.
